We're two retirees who got tired of "free" retirement help that turned into a sales pitch — so we built the opposite.
One of us spent about 45 years in manufacturing, working up from the shop floor to a vice-president of operations. The other taught in public schools for 30 years. Between us, we've spent a lot of time figuring out the real questions retirement throws at you — when to claim Social Security, how Medicare actually works, what to do about long-term care, how to make savings last — and we got frustrated at how much of the good information sat behind a membership fee or a pitch for something.
When we went looking for straightforward answers, we kept hitting the same walls: pay a membership to read the useful part, hand over your email and get sold to, or wade through advice clearly written to steer you toward a product. None of it felt like it was actually for us.
So we started writing things down in plain English — the guides we wished we'd had — and put them online for free. That became RetireCalm. Everything here is meant to help you make your own informed decisions, not to push you toward anyone's product.
